Yacht Club Games announces several new Shovel Knight projects
There's about to be a whole lot of Shovel Knight in your future.
What you need to know
- Shovel Knight is a side-scrolling platformer from indie developer Yacht Club Games.
- Yacht Club is partnering with Nitrome to make Shovel Knight Dig.
- The studio unveiled Shovel Knight: King of Cards, which has the most content ever in a Shovel Knight game.
- Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is also getting new features.
Yacht Club Games held its own Nintendo Direct-like presentation today where the indie studio revealed several new Shovel Knight projects in the works, along with upcoming features to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. Instead of asking what they announced, it might actually be appropriate to ask what didn't they announce, because the team went all-out ahead of PAX West.
Shovel Knight: King of Cards will be Treasure Trove's final expansion that the team hopes will be a "delightful return and a fitting sendoff." The studio even boasts that King of Cards will have more levels, mechanics, secrets, and content than any Shovel Knight game to come before it.
In partnership with Nitrome, Yacht Club Games is also releasing Shovel Knight Dig, an all-new Shovel Knight adventure starring the titular character who must face-off against Drill Knight and his crew wreaking havoc upon the lands. This one appears to be an entirely new game and not just an expansion to Treasure Trove.
A new update focused on multiplayer, Shovel Knight Showdown, is also making its way to Treasure Trove soon with new characters and a single-player component. In addition, Treasure Trove is getting some much needed updates like an Alchemy Quick Select option in Plague of Shadows and expanded accessibility options across all content.
The Order of No Quarter is raring for trouble.
Yacht Club struck gold with Shovel Knight and captured the essence of 8-bit platformers of yesteryear, and it proves the success that Kickstarted projects can have. Pick up your shovel and get ready to take on the villainous knights of The Order of No Quarter.
