And with only weeks until both hit living rooms across the globe, our hands-on unboxing provides an early look at the final devices.
While we're holding our first impressions on both consoles for a later date, the out-of-box experience provides a glimpse into what you can expect from launch day. These retail units further reinforce Microsoft's mantra headed into the holiday, split between a premium Xbox Series X focused on delivering a leading gaming experience and Xbox Series S keeping costs low with some next-gen features.

Comparing Xbox Series X to Xbox Series S, it's immediately apparent how each console has been tailored to different audiences. The Xbox Series X is undeniably premium, wrapped in all-black packaging. The device is hefty and towers high, with Microsoft talking ambitious 4K, 60Hz targets, and support up to 120Hz. While we previously rounded up some early hands-on impressions, we'll have more to share in the final review.
The Xbox Series S also brings a lot for its audience, with a small footprint packing a portion of the power seen with its sister console. It's designed for Xbox owners gaming below 4K resolution while trimming features like the disc drive and even adopting cheaper, all-cardboard packaging. And it's surprisingly small, even after seeing the renders online, easily lifted with one hand, and ideal for traveling.
