What you need to know

  • Microsoft just revealed its quarterly earnings report.
  • The company announced $33.7 billion in revenue and $13.2 billion in net income.
  • Xbox Live monthly active users were also discussed during the presentation.
  • The player count now stands at 65 million, up from 57 million the past year.

Today, Microsoft revealed its "FY19 Q4" earnings report. While the company announced $33.7 billion in revenue and $13.2 billion in net income, it also gave us a look into Xbox Live. Since Microsoft revealed services like Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, there has been a lot of interest from gamers. As a result of this, the Xbox Live active user count has also increased over the past three months.

During its quarterly presentation, the company said that Xbox Live monthly active users grew to 65 million. "Monthly active user" means that these people played on Xbox Live in the past month. This is a significant increase because last year, in "FY18 Q4," this figure was at 57 million. Keep in mind that this includes all Xbox Live users, even if they don't subscribe to Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass on consoles and PC, or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Even if you look at the past six to nine months, the 65 million figure is still higher. This is excellent news for the company because that means more people are playing games on Xbox One, Windows 10, or other Xbox Live-supported platforms. The popularity of Xbox Game Pass, particularly the $1 Xbox Game Pass Ultimate deal, probably played a role in this.
