What you need to know

  • A new Witcher anime film is coming to Netflix.
  • It's titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.
  • Lauren Hissrich and Beau DeMayo from The Witcher on Netflix are helping lead the project.
  • Studio Mir, an animation studio that has worked on The Legend of Korra, is responsible for the animation.

If you just can't get enough of The Witcher, something is coming that might ease the wait for Season Two. Netflix has just announced a new Witcher anime film called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Lauren Hissrich, showrunner for The Witcher Netflix series, is part of bringing this project, as is Beau DeMayo, a writer for The Witcher Netflix show. The animation is being handled by Studio Mir, a studio that has worked on The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender.

Given the nature of the series' timeline, it's entirely possible that this anime film ends up being an interquel of sorts —taking place before certain events and episodes but well after others. At this time, we don't know much else about this film, such as if any of the cast from The Witcher series will be reprising their roles. In the meantime, if that wonderful song "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher" is still ringing in your ears, you can just embrace it and listen to it on Spotify.

The Witcher show has seen a great amount of success on Netflix and has even helped boost the number of people trying out the games, as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt saw its highest-ever number of concurrent players on Steam, with over 100,000 all playing at the same time. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 4 version of the game was the #7 most downloaded PlayStation 4 game in December 2019.
