Quad Camera for your Windows Phone is another special effects tool for your Windows Phone camera. Quad Camera gives your camera the ability to shoot in burst mode, frame all the images together and gives you the ability to create some rather interesting photos. From action sequences to unique portraits, Quad Camera is another app that will extend your camera's capabilities.
Quad Camera takes 4-8 images (depending on the layout) in a short burst and frames them together in one of three layout variations. Layouts include 2x2, 4x1 and 4x2 that are chosen from the apps' settings. You also have the ability to set the time period between shots (.1 to 3 seconds) and apply a grayscale effects filter to your images. The 4x1 layout reminds me of the black and white photo booth pictures that you could get years ago. You know... the ones that took four pictures ever couple of seconds.
The layout of Quad Camera is simple with your camera view appearing on the screen and three button controls lining up at the bottom of the screen. You have the camera button to start the shoot, the settings button and a help button. Once you start the shoot a timer bar will appear at the bottom of the screen to show when each shot is taken and when done, the final image collection will appear. You can either save the image to your Photo Hub or hit the back button to try again.
As best I can tell, Quad Camera will use your saved camera settings with respect to saturation, contrast, brightness and resolution. Exposure, as with the main camera app, is done automatically. It would be nice to have access to the core camera settings from Quad Camera but I'm not sure that's possible.
Sure you could take 4-8 images the traditional way and use Photoshop to create the same effects but Quad Camera does all the heavy lifting for you. I can see Quad Camera being used for sequence shots of kids, for interesting portraits, as well as interesting landscape images. Or as an easy substitute for the old photo booth type photos.
All in all, Quad Camera is an interesting camera app for your Windows Phone. There is a free trial available so you can try before buying and the full version of Quad Camera will run you $.99. You can download Quad Camera here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.
