Windows Phone Accessory Review: Otterbox 2000
If you're looking for a waterproof case for your Windows Phone, take a gander at the Otterbox 2000. The case is waterproof (submersible up to 100 feet), crush proof and airtight. The Otterbox 2000 is a nice option if you're looking for a solution to protect your Windows Phone from the elements. I can see it come in handy on the beach, in the boat, on the four wheeler or any where else dust, water, grit and grime needs to stay away from your Windows Phone.
The design of the Otterbox 2000 is simple. The hinged case is made of thick polycarbonate case that is securely closed by two latches. A rubber seal runs the inside of the upper half of the case to insure an airtight seal. The latches are held in place securely and they will take a bit of effort to open. A lanyard is looped to one end of the case.
The Otterbox 2000 isn't a form fitting case by any means. The interior dimensions measure 5.7x3.14x.99 inches. Exteriors dimensions measure 6.8x3.14x1.8 inches. The case can handle everything from the smaller Samsung Focus Flash to the larger HTC Titan. However, with the interior space being so large, there's too much room.
You really need to use the Otterbox 2000 with your Windows Phone in case. Otherwise, the phone will bounced around like a pinball.
As far as waterproofing goes, the interior of the case remained dry while dunking the case in a bucket of water. Otterbox says the 2000 is crushproof and while I don't know if it would handle being run over by a car, it's solid enough to survive being bounced off the concrete.
All in all, I liked the Otterbox 2000. I can see it coming in handy for trips to the beach, out in the boat or personal watercraft, camping or any other situation where you need to protect your Windows Phone from the elements. The only downside to the Otterbox 2000 is that you have to remove your Windows Phone to use it.
While an alternative such as the Overboard Waterproof Case will let you use your Windows Phone while in the case, such options won't offer near the protection the Otterbox does.
