Where's the best place to buy Lenovo's Legion Y7000?
Who is the Lenovo Legion Y7000 intended for?
Lenovo created the Legion Y7000, which we favorably reviewed, as a cost-effective alternative to its higher-end Y500- and Y700-series Legion laptops, which get quite pricey when you factor in NVIDIA's latest RTX graphics cards (GPU). The Y7000 doesn't have the same chassis as the more expensive models, nor does it have customizable RGB lighting or a Thunderbolt 3 port. It has more of a focus on performance over flash, which is perfectly acceptable for a lot of PC gamers.
A NVIDIA GTX 1060 GPU with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM coupled with a hexa-core 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H processor (CPU) and 16GB of dual-channel DDR4 RAM puts up some powerful performance, and you get a speedy 256GB PCIe solid-state drive (SSD) coupled with a 2.5-inch 1TB hard-disk drive (HDD) for mass storage. The Legion Y7000 also has a 1080p display with great sRGB color reproduction, which is a sore spot on a lot of mid-range gaming laptop.
Altogether, these specs often cost a lot more when paired with the extra features commonly found in gaming laptops, but as long as you don't mind a chunkier look and lack of customizable lighting, you should get by just fine. The Legion Y7000 won't push Ultra settings on new AAA games — at least not at an acceptable framerate — but it will still deliver a satisfying gaming experience with slightly lower settings. In testing, the Y7000 averaged 68 frames-per-second (FPS) in Apex Legends on High settings and 78 FPS in Fortnite with Epic settings.
Can the Legion Y7000 be upgraded after purchase?
After removing the back panel of the Legion Y7000, you have ready access to the M.2 SSD, 2.5-inch HDD, and dual RAM slots. All three components can be easily upgraded in order to keep the laptop relevant for longer.
A larger HDD is not a bad idea if you have a sizeable game library you like to keep downloaded at all times, and a larger M.2 SSD is a great option for massive games that don't run so well on a slower HDD (looking at you, Anthem).
