The timed Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S console exclusive was originally slated to launch sometime earlier in the year, but like many games, ending up being pushed back in order to allow the team of over 150 developers more time for polish.
Developed and published by Fatshark, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide draws on the formula of past games like the Vermintide franchise, with up to four players trying to survive wave after waves of foes as they progress through the Hive City of Tertium on the planet Atoma Prime, all while looking into a mysterious new cult called The Admonition.
The game is being written by Dan Abnett, who has also written several prior stories in the grimdark Warhammer 40,000 universe. First revealed back at the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will launch into Xbox Game Pass on day one.
