What you need to know

  • Halo Infinite campaign reviews went live earlier today, and with the game being available on five platforms, find out which one is the best to play on.
  • The analysis should be obvious right off the bat, but there are a few surprises along the way.
  • The Halo Infinite campaign has a solid and steady performance no matter which platform you play on.

Halo Infinite campaign reviews went live earlier today, and in our review, we found it to easily be one of the best entries to the series in a very long time. With the campaign being available on old and new Microsoft consoles, along with the PC, fans will want to know how their version fares and what they're missing out on on the best version of the game.

YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits did an analysis where it pitted the Xbox One consoles, Xbox Series consoles, and PC to find out which is the best way to play the Halo Infinite campaign. While the answer is fairly obvious — PC being the first choice and Xbox Series X being the second — there are a lot of surprising findings in regards to things like frame rate and resolution, especially in relation to the quality and performance modes. Digital Foundry also posted its analysis of the game running on the Xbox Series X.

If you just want the rundown of where each console stands, here is the breakdown.

Xbox One (Base console and S)

  • Runs at a dynamic 1080p resolution with a common dip to 972p.
  • The FPS is capped to 30FPS.
  • There is no choice between quality or performance modes.

Xbox One X

  • It runs at dynamic 4K resolution with a common dip to 1800p and 30FPS cap in quality mode.
  • Runs at dynamic 1440p resolution with a common dip to 1260p, and the FPS is capped at 60FPS in performance mode.

Xbox Series S

  • In quality mode, it runs at a dynamic 1080p resolution with a common dip to 1080p, and the FPS is capped at 30FPS.
  • In performance mode, it runs at a dynamic 1080p resolution with a common dip to 1080p, and the FPS is capped at 60FPS.

Xbox Series X

  • In quality mode, it runs at a dynamic 4K resolution with a common dip to 1800p, and there is a 60FPS cap.
  • In performance mode, it hits a dynamic 1440p resolution with a common dip to 1188p. Meanwhile, the FPS peaks at 120FPS but mostly holds between 100 and 120FPS.

PC

  • The game ran at max details on 4K on a RTX 3080 with no problems.

In addition, a few obvious differences between the Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC version were highlighted by the video:

  • The Xbox Series consoles and PC have higher levels of vegetation on the map.
  • The Xbox Series consoles have a pause that lasts as long as 5 seconds. This was also observed in Digital Foundry's video.
  • The quality of textures on the Xbox One consoles is considerably lower than the Xbox Series consoles.
  • In previous builds, the Xbox Series S was capable of running Halo Infinite at 120FPS and was capable of even reaching 1440p. Perhaps 343 Industries will release improvements in a later update.

Xbox and PC players can play the Halo Infinite campaign when it launches on Dec. 8, and will be free to download for current Game Pass subscribers on both platforms.
