The Surge 2 is an upcoming Dark Souls-like game which is more accessible than the popular series. Developer Deck 13 and publisher Focus Home Interactive announced the renewal of their partnership and the development of The Surge 2 over a year ago. The sequel is planned for launch on PC and consoles in 2019. According to the team, The Surge 2 keeps the hardcore limb-targeting combat system, but greatly enhances the environment.
The Surge mostly took place in claustrophobic corridors, and even the theme park and Wild West expansions didn't feel as open as they should have. The Surge 2 transports players to a sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design. The developer noted that combat is also more brutal than ever, with even more options in the limb-targeting system. As expected, there will also be more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones. This should give players more freedom when it comes to choosing a playstyle that works for them.
According to a report by TrueAchievements, a Microsoft Store listing for The Surge 2 may have revealed its release date. The page says that the game will launch on September 24. We were able to verify this by going to the Microsoft Store Australia page. The title is listed for Australian $89.95, which converts to American $60. It's also Xbox One X Enhanced, but it seems like the game doesn't run at 4K resolution. It'll probably prioritize 60 frames per second gameplay.
Since there is just one listing for The Surge 2, there doesn't appear to be a season pass. Just like its predecessor, this game will probably feature separate paid expansions. Hopefully areas other than theme parks and Wild West sets will be featured this time around.
