Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka teases new project to be revealed later in 2021
More news later this year, but what will it be?
What you need to know
- Akira Yamaoka is a celebrated composer who has worked on Silent Hill, The Medium and more.
- In a recent interview with Al Hub, Yamaoka stated that he has a new project that'll be revealed later in the summer.
- He also stated through a translator "I think it's kinda the one you're hoping to hear about."
Update, February 5 (10:37 am ET): The interview has now been pulled.
Akira Yamoaka is an accomplished composer, well known for his work on the Silent Hill soundtracks. More recently, he composed part of the soundtrack for The Medium, a horror game from Polish studio Bloober Team. Now, it seems like we'll know what else Yamoaka is working on later this year.
Speaking with Al Hub, when asked when people would see his next project, Yamaoka answered through a translator that we'll probably hear something "this summer" and that "I think it's kinda the one you're hoping to hear about."
Now, it's important to note that he doesn't ever say he's working on a Silent Hill game, or that he's working with Konami. This could be something completely separate from that game and company. With that said, the phrase he chose to use is absolutely eyebrow-raising, so it'll be interesting to see just what's going on. Overall, The Medium has received favorable reviews, though our editor Carli Velocci argues it's not the game Silent Hill fans need right now.
More horror games are coming years out from all over the gaming industry, with former Sony Japan studio employees founding a team called Bokeh Game Studio, which is working on a multiplatform horror game while aiming to release it at some point in 2023. Meanwhile, the co-creator of Dead Space is working on a title called The Callisto Protocol, which is being aimed for a 2022 release.
Update, February 5 (10:37 am ET) — The interview is no longer up
Al Hub confirmed on Twitter that the interview has been pulled.
