Sea of Thieves reaches over 10 million players, new free content available on January 15
More players than ever on the high seas.
What you need to know
- Sea of Thieves has now crossed over 10 million players.
- It's now the most successful new IP from Xbox this generation.
- To celebrate, some free content will be available starting on January 15.
- It's available in Xbox Game Pass.
Today, Executive Producer at Rare Joe Neate announced that Sea of Thieves has crossed 10 million players. Neate naturally noted that reaching over 10 million players under two years after release makes Sea of Thieves the most successful new IP from Xbox this generation.
The previous milestone was 8 million players, which Sea of Thieves reached back in June 2019. Before that, it reached 5 million players in August 2018. To celebrate this success, Sea of Thieves is getting some free content in the January 'Legends of the Seas' content update, which is meant to have the community of players at the center. As part of this update, players will be able to grab a custom sail and emote starting on January 15 through January 22.
Sea of Thieves first released in March 2018. Since then, it's received several massive content updates and expansions, adding new foes, features and even storylines in the form of Tall Tales as part of the Anniversary update, all for free. There's also a new paid Emporium where players can grab custom emotes and pets.
