Samsung's T7 portable SSD finally on sale from $110
Several months after the T7 Touch arrived you can buy one now without the fingerprint scanner for a lower price.
What you need to know
- Samsung T7 portable SSD was announced at CES in January.
- The T7 Touch has been on sale for a while and adds a fingerprint scanner.
- The T7 uses USB 3.2 to enable superfast data transfer.
Back in January at CES, Samsung announced its latest portable SSDs, the T7 and T7 Touch. I reviewed the latter soon after and perhaps the biggest criticism was that only the more expensive, fingerprint-enabled version was on sale initially. Now, finally, that's changing and the less expensive T7 is finally going on sale.
Spec wise it's identical to the T7 Touch, save for the lack of the fingerprint scanner.
- Capacity - 500GB/1TB/2TB
- USB 3.2 (Gen 2, 10Gbps)
- Read / Write - Up to 1,050 MB/s / Up to 1,000 MB/s
- Encryption - AES 256-bit hardware data encryption
- Security - Password/Fingerprint
- Weight - 58g
- Warranty - 3 years
Even though the biometric security isn't included with this one, Samsung still includes password protection software to help you easily keep your data a little more secure. Like the T7 Touch it makes use of USB 3.2 in order to get the maximum performance, and in our testing Samsung's claimed numbers certainly hold up. I currently use a T7 Touch to house a copy of my Steam library and you wouldn't know the games were loading from an external drive. It's really good.
Oh, and the T7 comes in a wider range of colors, including blue and red.
The T7 is available to order now from a variety of retailers, though the ongoing global crisis may well impact on when you can actually get your hands on one. Newegg, for example, is accepting orders but is currently labelling shipping for June 14.
Prices start at $110 for the 500GB version, with 1TB and 2TB capacities also available. If you're looking for a top performing and tiny external storage solution, this is well worth your time.
A pocket-sized SSD with incredible performance
The T7 is a more affordable version of the T7 Touch with USB 3.2 for fast data transfer, Samsung's trademark quality and excellent warranty and all in a package you can slip in a pocket.
