RYG, an endless space racer for your Windows Phone

RYG is a fast paced, endless runner styled Windows Phone game that puts you behind the controls of a space racer. The challenge is to see how far you can travel down the Road of Stars before racing off the road and into the dark depths of space.

Available for low-memory Windows Phones, RYG has nice graphics and the game is challenging enough to keep you on your toes. RYG isn't an overly complicated Windows Phone game but a fun game to pass the time with none the less.

The main menu for RYG doesn't stray too far from your typical Windows Phone gaming menu. You will find options to view your gaming achievements (non-Xbox) and the high scores as well as the customary options to view the About screen, visit the game's Facebook page and share the game.

RYG Menus

The Launch option will send you to game play after a brief instructional screen appears detailing flight controls.

The goal of RYG is to pilot a spaceship down a winding road as far as you can. If you steer your spaceship off the road or miss a jump, your ship will fall endlessly into the dark depths of space and the game ends.

You will use your Windows Phone tilt controls to steer your ship left/right and you jump your ship by swiping up at the screen. The ship's forward acceleration is automatic and the further you travel down the Road of Stars, the faster the ship will go.

RYG

The Road to Stars will change in color as you travel down it and the road has plenty of twists and curves to navigate. There is also the random break in the roadway, which you will need to jump your spaceship across.

Don't be shocked if you only survive a short distance down the road as you become accustomed to the gaming controls. The roadway is rather narrow and when it starts to snake around it can be rather difficult keeping your spaceship in between the ditches, so to speak.

Overall Impression

RYG is the first Windows Phone game from Sad Jester Games and isn't too shabby of an offering. The graphics are well drawn up and game play challenging. RYG isn't a game you'll sit down and play for hours on end but is nicely suited for shorter gaming sessions.

While an enjoyable game, there is one non-gaming feature of RYG that the developers should be commended on – the ad support. RYG is an ad-supported, free game but the ad banner's presence is limited. It appears sporadically in the side menus but not during game play (or if it does, I never survived long enough to see it). This is a really nice touch that allows the game to take center stage.

Overall, if you are looking for a challenging game to pass the time with RYG is one worth considering. There are not a lot of bells and whistles to the game but what is in place is well done.

At last check, RYG is un-rated in the Windows Phone Store and we would place the game in the 4 star range. If you try RYG, be sure to rate the game in the Windows Phone Store and let us know what you think of the game in the comments below.
