Survival game Rust first released for PC back in 2013 via early access, with a full release coming in 2018. Now, at long last, it's making its way to consoles. The console port, which is developed and published by Double Eleven, not the original developer Facepunch, was confirmed via press release today to be coming to Xbox One and PS4 at some point later in Spring 2021.
You can check out the trailer below for a glimpse at what the harsh world of Rust is going to be like and run like on consoles.
In Rust, players explore an abandoned island filled with dangers such as wolves, radiation and up 100 other players. If players survive the steep learning curve, anything is possible, such as building forts, acquiring artillery and forging alliances.
While Rust is several years old at this point, the game still has a healthy playerbase, as it recently shattered its player count twice on Steam over the last few weeks, per Garry Newman, one of the developers at Facepunch and the creator of the immensely popular Garry's Mod.
It'll be interesting to see how Rust performs on console, with multiple survival games currently seeing high engagement on PC such as Obsidian Entertainment's Grounded and the recent sensation, Iron Gate Studio's Valheim, which has crossed five million copies sold.
