Review - Spigen Ultra Hybrid case for HTC One for Windows

The HTC One (M8) for Windows, which was previously a Verizon exclusive, is available for AT&T today and probably heading to T-Mobile this weekend. People who are running out to grab one right away may be looking for a fresh case to protect their new flagship phone.

Spigen's Ultra Hybrid case for the HTC One for Windows would be a good place to start looking.

Just like other hybrid cases, the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case is comprised of two layers, a soft layer for absorbing impact and hard shell to prevent scratches. But unlike most of its kind, Spigen combined both pieces into a single cohesive case. This single-body design makes application foolproof. Simply pop the phone in, and you are done.

The thin outer layer is made of Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). It forms a ring around the sides and corners of the HTC One M8 to prevent damage from drops. The TPU also comes up slightly around the front of the phone to form a cushion between the screen and the ground in case it falls flat on its face.

There are cutouts on the bottom for the USB and audio jacks, but the power and volume buttons are covered. The button covers are some of the best I have seen. Even though they are flush to the rest of the case, they are comfortable and easy to use. HTC can take some credit for this because the buttons on the phone keep a low profile, but Spigen did an excellent job of complimenting their design.

The hard backing of the Ultra Hybrid case is made of clear Polycarbonate, which shows off the shiny metal unibody of the HTC One. Both the inside and outside of the case are scratch-resistant to keep it looking sharp, even after taking a licking. Because it is clear, though, it is susceptible to racking up fingerprints.

Despite being made of an entirely different material, the Polycarbonate back mimics the grip of the HTC One's metal body. It is slick enough to slide quickly out of your pocket, but will not slip out of your hand.

The Spigen Ultra Hybrid case also comes with a screen protector to give you complete protection for your HTC One M8. It is a pretty run-of-the-mill screen cover but deserves a mention for sure.

I could not find anything that I didn't like about the Spigen Ultra Hybrid. It is light, but at the same time offers substantial protection. There is enough added zing with the TPU rim, though the clear backing lets the sleek HTC One for Windows shine through. You can get the Spigen Ultra Hybrid in Metal Slate, Gold, Silver, and Mint (pictured).Or, you can opt for the Clear if you'd prefer to let the phone speak for itself.

Pick up the Ultra Hybrid case directly from Spigen for $19.99.
