Resident Evil's Jill, Leon, and Nemesis join Dead by Daylight in huge chapter
What you need to know
- Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical horror game where one player is a horror killer and the others have to survive.
- The long-awaited Resident Evil chapter of Dead by Daylight was announced on Tuesday. It'll be available on June 15.
- Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine are joining the game as Survivors, while Resident Evil 3's Nemesis is joining as a Killer.
The long-awaited Resident Evil chapter of the PvP horror game Dead by Daylight is finally almost here. According to an announcement from the game's developers on Tuesday during a fifth anniversary broadcast, Nemesis, the Big Bad of Resident Evil 3, is joining the game as a killer, while Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine will be playable Survivors starting on June 15.
Each of the killers in Dead by Daylight has unique abilities that change up each round. Nemesis (called the Tyrant here), attacks Survivors with his tentacles, as seen in the trailer above. That makes him a ranged killer. However, he has an extra ability; he can infect Survivors with the T-Virus, which doesn't exactly turn them into zombies, but does make them cough, therefore making them easier to find. He can also spawn zombies that can also infect Survivors — the first time AI characters can help the Killer. The more Survivors he infects, the more powerful he becomes. His tentacles become stronger as a result.
Like with other Killers, there are ways to counteract his abilities on the map. Here, there will be vaccines that players can find.
The new Survivors also get their own perks, including high adaptability for Jill and a flashbang for Leon, which he can spawn during the match under very certain conditions. This is very unique for the game, which usually only allows you to equip items before a match.
Along with the new characters is a new map in the Raccoon City Police Station, the famous setting from Resident Evil 2, and 3 to a certain extent. It'll be the map recreated from the remake versions of those games.
This is the first new chapter the game has received in a while. The team has been focused on graphical upgrades over the past year, according to Creative Director Dave Richard.
For more information on the new chapter, what the new map looks like, and with some other Dead by Daylight goodies (including some streamer fun), you can check out the broadcast stream on YouTube. (The Resident Evil announcement starts at around 46:33.)
