Resident Evil 7 gets long-awaited Xbox One X upgrade
Resident Evil 7 looks crisp on 4K displays now.
Many months ago, Capcom promised that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard would receive an Xbox One X upgrade relatively soon. Unfortunately, news tapered off and the company provided no estimate on when the title would receive the long-awaited patch. Luckily, that all changed this morning because Resident Evil 7 is now Xbox One X Enhanced! A small patch enables the game to render at a higher resolution than before.
It's unclear what the resolution is, but the game looks noticeably sharper on a 4K display. Unfortunately, it seems like the texture quality remains the same so the upgrade isn't as significant as a game like Assassin's Creed Origins or Far Cry 5.
Capcom released a trailer comparing the visuals between an Xbox One S and Xbox One X. Aside from the added clarity, there doesn't appear to be any difference. Luckily, Resident Evil 7 still runs at 60 FPS despite the higher resolution. We tested out the patch for a few hours and noticed that the performance also appears to be much more stable than before.
We reviewed Resident Evil 7 many months ago and gave it a perfect score. If you haven't experienced the title's revival of the classic survival horror formula yet, be sure to check it out at retailers. This is the game that Resident Evil fans have been waiting for because it successfully reinvigorates the franchise.
