Report: Dead Space remake is in the works, inspired by Resident Evil remakes
Isaac Clarke could be returning for the first time since 2013.
What you need to know
- A Dead Space remake is reportedly being developed by EA Motive.
- The remake was also reportedly inspired by Capcom's Resident Evil 2 remake.
- This remake is intended to reboot the Dead Space franchise.
Dead Space is coming back with a remake or reimagining of the franchise reportedly in development. That's according to VentureBeat reporter Jeff Grubb, who indicates that this Dead Space game is being developed by EA Motive Studio. Gematsu and Eurogamer have corroborated the game's existence and we've heard similar things from our own sources earlier this year.
Motive has previously worked in a support capacity of games like Star Wars: Battlefront 2, while also developing Star Wars: Squadrons. The team reportedly had a new IP canceled a few months ago, though there were no layoffs as a result.
Grubb says that this project was heavily inspired by Capcom's Resident Evil 2 remake (which has sold over 8.1 million copies) and in a similar vein, the Dead Space remake will use new visuals and gameplay mechanics but is built on the foundation of the original game.
On top of all this, the Dead Space YouTube channel recently changed its profile pic after years of inactivity. Coincedence? Perhaps.
We'll have to wait and see just when this could be announced. EA Play 2021 is set for July 22, rounding out the summer gaming events, and BioWare has already publicly confirmed that Dragon Age 4 and the next Mass Effect games will not be present.
