What you need to know

  • Ubisoft concluded the Rainbow Six Siege Operation Shifting Tides reveal with a new Six Invitational 2020 teaser clip.
  • Uniform-clad Operators allude to a 2020 Olympics-style event, aligning with recent Greece teasers.

Ubisoft has unveiled Operation Shifting Tides, rounding its 2019 plans for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. New playable Operators Kali and Wamai fill much-needed roles in the Rainbow roster, paired up with a reworked Theme Park map improving aesthetics and flow. However, it wrapped its dedicated Rainbow Six Pro League panel with a tease of Six Invitational 2020 plans, suggesting an Olympic-style event lies in the new year.

An Olympic event in Rainbow Six Siege wouldn't come as a huge surprise, as Tokyo looks to host the iconic sporting event in summer 2020. It follows numerous Greek references littered throughout promotional assets last February, continuing with the Rainbow Six Battle Pass implemented with Operation Ember Rise. Ubisoft ties these references under the cryptic "Project R6 Vision" codename, discussing a "tournament of champions" in Athens. We speculated Year 5 Season 1 is headed to Greece – although something more substantial might be in the pipeline.

The Operation Shifting Tides reveal concluded with a message from its Montreal-based studio, "In February 2020, we will come together, so we may be stronger apart." Followed by a brief CGI glimpse of what appears to be Olympic-themed gear across five Operators. Caveira, Hibana, Thatcher, Pulse, and Sledge look to be sporting national gear to cheers of an arena, all indicative international championship. They're easy to miss, first brought to light by YouTuber coreross, but seamlessly tie into over a year of teasers.

The upcoming Six Invitational 2020 kicks off February 14 through February 16, likely host to its Year 5 roadmap reveal, and first details on the Year 5 Season 1 update. These could merely be a batch of premium skins planned for the event, although continued references allude to a much bigger picture.
