Rainbow Six Siege upcoming anti-cheat improvements outlined

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege has seen unparalleled growth in recent years and now sits among today's top shooters. Continued success has secured a strong future, though an increasingly large pool of hackers and cheaters harms its tactical multiplayer. Despite implementing various anti-cheat measures, the issue still remains prevalent, especially on Windows PCs. Taking to the Rainbow Six Siege blog, Ubisoft has outlined its plans to strengthen efforts to combat cheaters.

Firstly, Ubisoft claims to have scaled its internal penetration testing, allowing the team to emulate the risk of hackers and patch exploits before cheat makers leverage them. The process of rolling out hotfixes has also been streamlined – starting with a fix deployed July 6. Ubisoft also plans to ban an estimated 600 accounts "boosted by cheaters" on July 16 following these changes.

Going forward Ubisoft states its "primary focus" is to force Uplay two-factor authentication (2FA) on all players using the Ranked playlist on PC. Requiring a second form of authentication via a mobile number, email address or app, this adds an additional security layer when logging in. And for gameplay, tying personal credentials to the user makes it harder to create new untraceable accounts.

Experiments are also underway surrounding Match Making Rank (MMR) for Rainbow Six Siege, which attaches a skill rank to players to equal multiplayer balancing. Changes being considered include freezing MMR in matches when hackers are identified, and restrictions on the rank gap between queuing party members.

Many of these changes are still in the works and may never make their debut in the full game. However, as frustration among the community grows, Ubisoft can earn goodwill for being aware and acting on the issue. This follows Rainbow Six Siege's newly-added Sunsplash Collection, which provides access to 12 limited-time summer-themed cosmetics in randomized packs.
