The QNAP uses an Intel Celeron J3355 dual-core 2.0 GHz processor, 2GB DDR3L RAM that's expandable to 8GB, a Gigabit Ethernet port, a PCIe slot, and a 6 GB/s SATA connection. It even has built-in speakers and 3.5mm jacks so you can listen to your media directly. The PCIe slot is important, and unique among NAS, because it allows you to install a 10 Gigabit Ethernet network card, wireless network cards, a QM2 M.2 SSD, or a USB 3.1 card. The system has 4K media playback, online transcoding, and the ability to view media across devices using the HDMI output.
These are diskless bays, which means there's no hard drives inside. You'll need to fill them yourself. The WD Red 4TB is an internal hard drive designed for NAS devices like this, and the 4TB drive also happens to be down to a nice low price of $99.99.
