Power Planner for Windows 10 makes it easy for students to manage classes

Keeping track of a schedule of classes gets increasingly complicated as you get further into your education. From alternating weeks to having different classes on different days, it can be easy to lose track of what's happening when. Power Planner for Windows 10 makes this easier by letting you schedule in all of your classes and also has tools to help you calculate your GPA.

The app is available for free on Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile, HoloLens, and Xbox One, though to get all of its features you'll have to upgrade to the premium version for $1.49. There are also versions of the app available on Android and iOS that sync with the Windows versions.

Scheduling

The app has all the standard features you'd expect in a calendar app, such as adding appointments, but also has a number of features geared specifically for students. You can enter in specific classes including their adding details such as a room number, can added tasks and homework, and pin specific schedules to a tile on your Start Menu. The app also integrates with your native calendar app so you can enter in all of your class details and then just use your normal calendar most of the time.

The app also syncs across multiple devices and platforms, which is almost essential for a calendar app. Power Planner is on iOS and Android in addition to its many Windows versions which means you can keep track of your classes no matter where you are.

Grades

The app also has the ability to calculate your current grade and your GPA. You can enter in weighted grades as well so your grade factors in a test being worth more than a quiz. This is a basic feature but one that is a nice touch for students who are trying to stay on top of things. You can also use a "what if" mode to figure out what grades you need on upcoming assignments to hit your goals.

Summary

Power Planner does a good job of providing scheduling features that aren't just replicating a native calendar app such as Outlook. Its ability to have alternating A/B weeks for classes is very handy for students at college or university. The app's GPA calculator and other student-centered features are very nice and combine to create a nice utility app.

The fact that Power Planner plays nice with native calendar apps and also can sync across the iOS and Android versions of the app makes it a great companion to your favorite calendar, rather than having to try to replace it.

Pros:

  • Integrates with other calendars
  • Syncs across multiple platforms
  • Has scheduling features specific to school

Cons:

  • Lacks subtasks for items
