Plex now supports HDR on Xbox One

Plex is a streaming platform which organizes music and movies from your computer and allows you to experience them on various devices like an Xbox One or mobile phone. For example, it comes in handy if you have a large video file on your laptop and don't want to copy it to a thumb drive to watch it on your Xbox One. You can simply download Plex on both platforms and easily stream the content.

However, playback was rather limited beforehand. HDR technology greatly enhances colors and Plex didn't support HDR on videos that featured it. Luckily, that changed a few days ago because Plex on Xbox One was updated to take advantage of it. However, there was some confusion if it was working at all so we reached out to the developer for clarification.

Plex supports display mode switching, which includes HDR and refresh rate switching... The added option for display mode switching means that Plex will choose the best display settings to match your content. We've also added HDR support for Xbox One S and One X.

Keep in mind that Plex won't display HDR with the original Xbox One. You need an Xbox One S or Xbox One X because they're capable of outputting HDR video. It's great to see that the company added this much-requested feature because you weren't getting the best experience beforehand.
