- New Lúcioball Remix mode introduced for the event.
Though the real Olympics were canceled this year, Overwatch fans can now take part in the Summer Games 2020 event running through August 4 - August 25, 2020.
While a lot of us are eagerly awaiting more news regarding the pending release of Overwatch 2, Jeff Kaplan and the development team for the game continue to put out new events into Overwatch to keep us playing. The Summer Games 2020 event is much like the event has been in previous years, with new skins for several characters that you can obtain through Summer Games loot boxes or through completely weekly challenges.
List of new skins
Who doesn't love new skins? The Summer Games 2020 event has eight new skins in total for characters like Baptiste, Doomfist, Bastion, Echo, and more. Here's a complete list of all the skins available during the event:
Skin | Character | How to earn |
---|---|---|
Sand Castle | Bastion | Weekly challenge |
Ice Cream | Orisa | Weekly challenge |
Union Jack | Tracer | Weekly challenge |
Tropical | Baptise | credits coins or Summer Games loot box |
Feskarn | Brigette | credits coins or Summer Games loot box |
Karate | Doomfist | credits or Summer Games loot box |
Surf's Up | Echo | credits or Summer Games loot box |
Lifeguard | Pharah | credits or Summer Games loot box |
The first weekly challenge (which starts today) will feature the Union Jack Tracer skin, which you can earn by winning nine games over the course of the week. You'll also get some exclusive player icons, one when you win three games, and then one more when you win six games. Both Bastion and Orisa's new skins will be obtained the same way in the subsequent weeks of the event.
Lúcioball Remix
Lucioball is a beloved game mode that was first introduced during Overwatch's first-ever Summer Games event, but this here there's a new way to play.
Lúcioball Remix has the same basic mechanics of Lúcioball, except there are two balls in play at once, giving you a more chaotic version of the mode. Adding to that chaos a little bit more is random bonus balls tat will show up periodically throughout a match that is worth three points when you score a goal.
Other goodies
As always, the dev team has included multiple different emotes, sprays, voice lines, and victory poses for lots of different heroes. You can see the full list in the main menu of Overwatch.
