Overkill's The Walking Dead shooter gets new character trailer and details
Aside from Telltale's The Walking Dead, Overkill is also working on a co-op first-person shooter set in the same universe.
The game has many heavyweights of the industry behind it like 505 Games, Skybound Entertainment, and Starbreeze Studios. Today, the developer released a new cinematic trailer which features Aidan, the first of the game's four unique playable characters fighting to stay alive in this post-apocalyptic world.
Overkill's The Walking Dead is inspired by Robert Kirkman's original graphic novels. The game takes place in Washington, D.C. as an outbreak brings the dead back to life. It's designed to be played together with a team and features four-player multiplayer.
Just like many co-op shooters, each playable character has their own special abilities, skill trees, squad roles, playstyles, and backgrounds. Despite their origins, the four now share a common objective where survival and teamwork is the key to success and staying alive. Just like Left 4 Dead, improvisation plays an important role in the game because you have to quickly adopt multiple strategies to take out enemies. Sometimes a blunt object is the way to go. Other times you need the security of a firearm. There's also a stealth component which comes in handy in certain occasions.
Overkill's The Walking Dead is expected to launch in Fall 2018 on Xbox One, Windows PC, and PlayStation 4. If you love the comics or show, be sure to keep an eye out for this game next year.
