Obsidian Entertainment reveals 'The Outer Worlds' at Game Awards 2018 (update)
It'll definitely have an interesting aesthetic.
December 6, 2018: Obsidian revealed 'The Outer Wilds' at The Game Awards 2018. It's a first-person game filled with choices.
Recently, Microsoft announced that it had acquired inXile Entertainment and Obsidian Entertainment. Both companies are working on announced projects, and it'll be interesting to see what they come up with down the line. However, Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division have been developing a title for a while, and it looks like it's going to be announced at The Game Awards 2018. Private Division is a new label from Take-Two Interactive Software that aims to publish games from top independent development studios. Take-Two Interactive Software is most notable as being the parent company of Rockstar Games.
We don't know what the role-playing game (RPG) is called, but there are rumors floating around that it's titled "The Outer Worlds." Given the images that Obsidian shared on its website today, we know that the upcoming game involves space and a possible steampunk-like world.
Now that Microsoft has acquired the company, it's possible that the unannounced project could become an Xbox One console exclusive. However, it's likely that this will be the company's last game on the PlayStation 4 platform after Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.
The Game Awards 2018 begin next Thursday at 8:30 ET. It'll be interesting to see what this project is. Obsidian is known for amazing games like Fallout: New Vegas and South Park: The Stick of Truth so there is understandably a lot of hype around the project. If it's a steampunk space RPG — like the visuals suggest — then people will lose their minds!
