Nokia Lumia 900 Case Review: Rugged QX Horizontal Case

Rugged QX Horizontal Case for the Lumia 900

Rugged might be an understatement for the Rugged QX Horizontal Case. The case comes across more as an industrial case than an everyday case. A case that would feel more at home on a construction site than at the office.  The Rugged QX is well built, offers a decent amount of protection for your Nokia Lumia 900 but feels a little bulky when compared to other horizontal cases.

The Rugged QX Horizontal case is composed of thick rubber and thick nylon (described as ballistic nylon) materials.  The rubber material protects the ends of the case with ribbed bumpers. The inside of the Rugged QX case is lined with a black microfiber material. The Rugged QX holds your Lumia 900 in place with a large flap with magnetic closures.  The clip is made of hefty polycarbonate that, on first impression, makes you think it's made of metal. The Rugged QX's construction comes across as the name suggests, rugged.

The Lumia 900 fits a little on the snug side.  I did notice that the fit relaxed slightly after a few days of use but not enough to completely get rid of the snug feel.  The belt clip holds the case in place nicely but doesn't have the firmness a metal clip has.  As far as protecting your Lumia 900,  the combination of nylon and rubber does offer a decent level of protection but seems to add a bit of bulk as well.  The rubber ends of the case are more rigid and less conforming to the phone.  The QX has more of a box like feel to it.

The QX case has a center cut-out at the bottom of the case that gives you a push point to assist in removing the Lumia 900 from the case. As with the Ecolife ELAN, if you carry the Lumia 900 in the Rugged QX button side down the power button is exposed. I don't know if this is a deal breaker but you will need to carry the Lumia 900 button side up with the QX case.  Otherwise you run the risk of accidentally hitting the power button.

If protection is key and size/bulk doesn't matter, the QX will do nicely. If you're looking for a slimmer, more compact case you may want to consider the Ecolife ELAN Case for the Lumia 900. The QX is a nice case, it just might not appeal to everyone.

The Rugged QX Horizontal Case for the Nokia Lumia 900 is running $24.95 and you can find it here at the WPCentral.com Accessory Store.
