New Sea of Thieves Insider program gives rewards to testers
Become a tester.
Sea of Thieves is an exploration-based pirate game that features great sailing mechanics, but the open-ended plot doesn't appeal to everyone. You have to find your own path as it mostly relies on emergent experiences. Over the past few months, developer Rare has promised numerous changes to the game — from combat to quests — and through constant updates, has managed to turn it around. Recently, Sea of Thieves even became the most-viewed game on Twitch.
A major part of Sea of Thieves is the "Pioneer" program. It allows those who sign up to test new builds of the game — under a non-disclosure agreement — before anyone else. Beforehand, there wasn't really an incentive to join the Pioneer program because you didn't earn any in-game items. The only reward was satisfaction that you helped the community, but that really isn't enough.
Today, Rare announced that it's relaunching the Pioneer program on March 12 as the "Insider" program. Those who participate will earn exclusive in-game cosmetics and other items. It seems like your currency will also carry over. This is a great way to get more people into the testing stages because new patches will be balanced and polished when they rolls out to everyone.
Will you join the Insider program on March 12? We should know more about it during the Inside Xbox show on the same day it seems.
