Destiny 2 developer Bungie has released a new ViDoc video that provides fans with a detailed overview of everything they can expect from the Destiny 2: The Witch Queen expansion. The video focused on Savathûn, her Throne World, the DLC's campaign, Season of the Risen, and new systems and loot such as weapon crafting and Light subclass reworks.
According to Bungie's developers, the studio wanted to make Savathûn ethereal and regal, while also preserving her cunning and imposing nature. Her Throne World, which players will be able to explore throughout The Witch Queen, will feature both dense and atmospheric Hive-themed areas as well as bright and open locations that represent the transformation that Savathûn and her Lucent Brood have gone through by obtaining the Light. The DLC's campaign will take players throughout the Throne World, and will be full of narrative surprises fitting for Savathûn's deceptive nature. It will also have Normal and Legendary difficulty options, the latter of which will offer double rewards to players.
The Witch Queen's launch will be accompanied by Season of the Risen, a season that focuses on the Guardians and the Cabal Empress Caiatl as they work together to stop Savathûn's Lucent Brood from attacking humanity. Over the course of the season, the Guardians will learn to use Caiatl's Light suppression technology against the Hive.
Bungie also went over Destiny 2's new weapon crafting system, which will allow players to create and tweak weapon perks and stats with crafting recipes that can be found throughout The Witch Queen's campaign. Alongside this system, roughly 50 new weapons are being added to the game, 42 of which are Legendary weapons.
Lastly, the developers discussed their plans for revamping each of Destiny 2's Light subclasses, starting with Void when The Witch Queen launches. All Void subclasses will be able to use suppressor grenades that disable enemy abilities, and players will be able to use Void damage in new ways to weaken foes or protect their allies. Titans, for example, will be able to use a subclass Aspect called Bastion that lets them slam their Sentinel Shield down and create a protective zone for teammates. Warlocks will get an Aspect called Child of the Old Gods that lets them create a Void black hole that follows them around and drains enemy life force. Future reworks for Solar and Arc subclasses will focus on burning and healing and spreading chain lightning, respectively.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is expected to launch on Feb. 22, 2022 on all platforms. The Standard Edition of the DLC costs $40, but there are other versions that are more expensive but offer bonus content as well. Notably, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen preorders are live now, so you can reserve your copy of the expansion ahead of launch if you'd like.
Take back the Light
If you're a Destiny 2 player that loves to chase after weapons, The Witch Queen expansion will be right up your alley. Featuring 42 new Legendary weapons and plenty of new Exotics as well, there will be plenty of new loot to grind for once the DLC arrives.
