Updated March 21, 2019: If you can't wait until April, there is a closed beta taking place between March 28 to 31. You have to preorder to gain access.
The Video Game Awards was chock full of new game announcements, and one of those was for the very popular Mortal Kombat franchise. Warner Bros. Interactive and NetherRealm Studios announced that Mortal Kombat 11 will launch for Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch April 23, 2019.
Very little was said about the game, but the announcement trailer showed an intense battle between Raiden and Scorpio, two of the series' most iconic characters. And, apparently, there will be multiple forms of Scorpio for this latest entry, or perhaps that's one of the character's new abilities.
Mortal Kombat 11 will enjoy an upgraded graphics engine, as well as character customization features along the lines of those present in superhero brawler Injustice 2. In that game, you could enhance the strengths of your fighter to fit your playstyle with unlockable gear that was earned through gameplay. It should make for a more engaging game that'll push all competitors to their highest limits.
Warner Bros. mentioned that the game will feature a sizable roster of Mortal Kombat fighters both new and old, with a continuation of the storyline that began way back in 2011 with the series' modern-day reboot. We're said to be getting more details about Mortal Kombat 11 come January 2019 in a more comprehensive reveal, so stay tuned.
