Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Beta 1.16.220.50 offers first look at mountain generation from 'Caves and Cliffs Update'

Today is a good day for Minecraft fans, as the latest Minecraft: Bedrock Edition beta introduces a major new feature coming in the much-anticipated Caves and Cliffs Update with all-new mountain generation. Minecraft Beta 1.16.220.50 debuts the new, more varied and beautiful mountains, re-introduces glow squids, and includes a ton of additional bug fixes.
Players in the Minecraft: Bedrock Edition beta program can install the latest beta now and experience all the latest features. All the Caves and Cliffs Update features are locked behind the Experimental Features toggle in Settings, and may require creating a new world to access.

Experimental Features
Mountains
- Introducing the new mountain sub biomes: Lofty Peaks, Snow Capped Peaks, Snowy Slopes, Mountain Grove, and Mountain Meadow!
- To accommodate the new Mountains we are raising the world height from 256 to 320 blocks with new Mountain generation up to a maximum of 256 blocks height
- For true alpinists: Iron, Coal and Emerald ores are generated in mountains
- Updated textures for Iron, Coal, Emerald, Diamond, Gold, Lapis, Copper, and Redstone ores
- Mountain terrain will now generate as part of Overworld world generation
- Move goat spawn from Extreme Hills to Snowy Slopes and allow rabbits to spawn in Mountain Grove
Glow squid
- The glow squid has been reintroduced to the beta!
- Glow Squid now emits glow colored ink particles when hurt
- Players can now use dye to color sign text
- Squid's model is no longer offset in the -Y direction
- Added Glow Squid, Glow Ink Sacs and Glow Item Frames
Bug fixes
Dripstone
- Placing Pointed Dripstone blocks in water no longer results in the water being removed
- When hanging Pointed Dripstones start falling their position now has the correct offset
- Tweaked the visual shape of Pointed Dripstone to match Java
- Crouching while placing pointed dripstone prevents the opposing stalactite and stalagmite to merge
- Standing on a Stalagmite and jumping will cause half heart fall damage when landing
- Pointed Dripstone now has the correct hitbox
- Pointed Dripstone blocks are no longer destroyed by flowing lava
- Pointed Dripstone now has the correct size and rotation when held in hand
- Stalactite death message is no longer ending with a dot
- Falling stalactite now deals correct fall damage
- Pointed Dripstone drips only lava in the Nether
- Being killed by dripstone now displays correct death message
- Correct sounds are now played for Dripstone and Pointed Dripstone blocks
- Added Large Dripstone feature for Dripstone Caves biome
- Clusters of Pointed Dripstone columns in the ceiling and on the floors of caves are placed out during world-gen
- Cauldrons can now fill up with water or lava when below stalactites that are dripping one of those liquids
- Throwing a trident on a pointed dripstone block breaks it
- Small Pointed Dripstone columns along with patches of Dripstone blocks are placed out during world-gen
- Added Dripstone block. It can be crafted from four Pointed Dripstones
Performance & stability
- Fixed several crashes that could occur during gameplay
- Fixed a crash that could occur when trying to rename a map on anvil while having its second slot occupied
General
- Powder Snow can no longer be placed in positions that already contain other blocks, such as Fence Posts or Iron Bars
- Glow signs are no longer unlit on DX11 and Mobile platforms
- Actor selectors no longer allow self selection with cheats disabled
- Projectiles now pass through Structure Void blocks
- Zombie, Zombie Villager, Husk, Pillager, Vindicator use correct bone to attach shields
- Mobs that pick up Shield now place it to their off-hand
- Visitors now drop inventory on death
- Improved placement rules for placing blocks on sides of Stair, Slab and Top Snow block
- Controllers are now able to select the "Button Mode" toggle in the Advanced Settings NPC screen in the Jurassic World pack
Commands
- Command block in a command block chain will list the correct amount of ticking areas when a new ticking area is added before listing
- Title command no longer duplicates % symbols in message
- Using teleport with execute command now uses the dimension of the origin for its operations
Marketplace
- The "Results" field for search within the marketplace inventory now updates properly between different sections within the screen
Accessibility
- Enabled screen narration with touch input on the new achievements screen
- Fixed a bug where Text-to-speech read the wrong text while using VR
Villages
- Villagers are no longer able to go through walls to sleep in a bed if the bed is adjacent to them
