Microsoft has published a brand new Fluent Design System website today that expands its design language across not only Windows, but iOS, Android, and the web. This is key to Microsoft's goal of bringing its new design language to all its products and services, including apps on non-Windows platforms.
If you're a developer building an iOS, Android, or Progressive Web App, you can now utilize Fluent Design complete with drop shadows, blur effects, and more. The new Fluent Design website describes the design language as follows:
Fluent brings the fundamentals of principled design, innovation in technology, and customer needs together as one. It's a collective approach to creating simplicity and coherence through a shared, open design system across platforms. People move and shift across devices and platforms throughout their day. From laptops to phones, from PCs to holograms. From office to living room, from real to virtual. Experiences seamlessly move and shift with them.
This should mean developers and Microsoft can keep app design consistent no matter what type of app is being built. If it's a PWA, it can still look "at home" on Windows, even if it's not a native UWP app.
