Microsoft is rumored to finally open a retail store in New York City. Believe it or not, there isn't a bonafide Microsoft Store in New York City. You do have a specialty Microsoft Store, but those are smaller and don't have as large a selection as typical Microsoft Store locations. A new rumor has a Microsoft Store set to open on Fifth Avenue – near Apple's glass cube store.
Microsoft is apparently set to set up shop at 677 Fifth Avenue. near 53rd Street. This puts it's near Apple's iconic glass cube store on 767 Fifth Avenue.
The location was previously occupied by Fendi, an Italian luxury fashion house. The 8,700-square-foot, two-story space Microsoft wants is in an area where rent for ground floor stores can go for $3,500 per square foot. You can do the math.
Microsoft is currently in the process of opening thirteen new Microsoft Stores in the United States and Canada. We'd love to see NYC added to that list.
Anyone in NYC aching for a permanent Microsoft Store? We know Mary Jo Foley is.
