What you need to know

  • Xbox Game Pass is a monthly subscription service which gives you access to over 200 games.
  • Even more games were announced for Xbox Game Pass on consoles and PC today.
  • Metal Gear Solid V and Resident Evil 4 highlight the lineup.
  • You can purchase Xbox Game Pass Ultimate through the Microsoft Store for $15 a month.

A few days ago, Microsoft announced that several ID@Xbox games were coming to Xbox Game Pass in July. While we knew about My Time in Portia, Timespinner, Unavowed, and Undertale, we didn't know which "AAA" experiences would be joining the service soon. Luckily, that changed this afternoon. Xbox Live's Director of Programming Larry Hryb just announced that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Resident Evil 2, and more games are being added to the service in the coming days.

You can read about the upcoming games below. We already knew that Night Call, The Banner Saga 3, and For the King would be joining Xbox Game Pass on July 17, 18, and 25, respectively.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain takes place nine years after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and the fall of Mother Base. Snake awakes from a nine-year coma. The game resumes the story in 1984, with the Cold War still as the backdrop, which continues to shape a global crisis. Snake's journey takes him into a world where he is driven by a need for revenge and the pursuit of a shadow group.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain should join Xbox Game Pass on July 18.

Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition

Play the legendary fighting game with stunning visuals, over-the-top action, a wild cast of combatants, and rocking reactive music. Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition includes all 26 characters and twenty stages from Seasons 1 to 3, as well as Killer Instinct Classic 1 and 2. Explore the lore, characters and music of Killer Instinct with exclusive behind-the-scenes videos, artwork, and an original soundtrack.

Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition should join Xbox Game Pass on July 25.

Resident Evil 4

In Resident Evil 4, American agent Leon Kennedy must investigate the kidnapping of the President's daughter by a mysterious cult known as Los Illuminados. Leon's search brings him to a rural village in Europe, where he encounters a horde of unimaginable horrors and must fight to uncover who or what is behind it all.

Resident Evil 4 should join Xbox Game Pass on July 25.

Keep in mind that Metal Gear Solid V and Resident Evil 4 are only coming to Xbox One. They won't be available on Xbox Game Pass for PC. Luckily, Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition is coming to Xbox One and Windows 10.

It's great to see that a lot of intriguing titles are joining Xbox Game Pass soon. Hopefully, more "AAA" games will be available later in July and the coming months. There's a promotion going on through Amazon which lets you upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – which includes Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Game Pass for PC, and Xbox Live Gold – for $45 for three months.
