Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2021 brings many new game reveals, including one from publisher 2K Games and developer Firaxis Games, the latter of which is best known for its work on the XCOM franchise. The team announced Marvel's Midnight Suns, a turn-based role-playing game that has players working to defeat Lilith, Mother of Demons. You can check out the reveal trailer for Marvel's Midnight Suns below.

Despite the obvious similarities to the XCOM series, Firaxis Games confirms there won't be any permadeath here. "We don't have permadeath because the fantasy is very different," the developers say to Polygon. "The fantasy in XCOM is the fantasy of soldiers holding on for dear life against a superior enemy. And in Midnight Suns very, very quickly — early on — I realized that the superior enemy in this game is the superheroes. So instead the bad guys are terrified of you."

Players take on the role of "The Hunter," a new superhero who is fully customizable, with over 40 powers for players to choose from. The Hunter will be responsible for leading a team of known characters like Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Ghost Rider and Captain Marvel. Marvel's Midnight Suns is currently set to launch at some point in March 2022. Gameplay footage will be shown in later this year in September.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch.
