LG's 2022 OLED TVs include new 42-inch model, brighter OLED panels
The latest in 4K and 8K TVs from LG, releasing later in 2022.
What you need to know
- LG Electronics has announced its 2022 TV lineup at CES 2022, including the latest round of updates to its 4K and 8K OLED TVs.
- The LG G1 and LG C2 now feature LG's brighter OLED Evo panel, with new 42-inch C2 and 97-inch G2 configurations.
LG Electronics has taken to CES 2022 with its refreshed 4K and 8K TV lineup, introducing sweeping changes across its 4K OLEDs, coupled with updated Mini LED QNED TVs. The manufacturer has also entered the new year with plans to expand its top-end "Evo" panel to its C-tier displays while introducing new 42- and 97-inch models within the premium offerings.
2022 sees LG's "Gallery" series back with more refinements, adopting its OLED Evo panel, with improved heat dissipation and brightness-geared algorithms to accommodate higher peak brightness. It aims to tackle previous criticisms against LG's top-tier G1 4K TV set, which first debuted its OLED Evo technology back in early 2021. The LG G2 also arrives in 55-, 65-, 77-, 83-, panel sizes, with pricing expected to fall in a similar ballpark to its G1 predecessor.
The LG C2 debuts some significant improvements in 2022, delivering a tangible upgrade over the previous CX and C1 lineups. It now has the same OLED Evo panel as the LG G2, which translates to around 20% brighter images than its standard OLED TVs.
The LG C2 also arrives in a 42-inch configuration, accompanying the previous 48- 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch models, closer to many of the best 4K monitors for Xbox Series X and PS5. This compact model follows the announcement of 42-inch panels from LG Display back at CES 2021, enabling more manufacturers to deliver smaller OLEDs moving in 2022.
The LG G2 and C2 also adopt 5.1.2 channel to 7.1.2 channel sound, improving overall sound quality versus earlier displays. They also include the same 4K 120Hz capabilities, with HDMI 2.1 onboard, among the best 4K TVs for Xbox Series X and PS5 gaming.
LG also has several more affordable OLEDs to come, including its B2 and C2 TVs, ditching the OLED Evo panel and lacking the newest Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor. The LG B2 has 4K resolution visuals up to 120Hz, with the same 7.1.2 channel support, leaving it closer to older LG CX and C1 models. LG also has its 8K OLED, the LG Z2, set to return with new mountable 77- and 88-inch variants.
LG is expected to announce more around the availability and pricing of its 2022 TVs closer to launch in the first half of 2022.
