What you need to know

  • FromSoftware has released Patch 1.02.2 for Elden Ring on PC, which addresses an issue that stopped the game from using your GPU and forced it to use your CPU integrated graphics instead.
  • The patch also fixes a crashing issue in the Fire Giant boss fight and numerous other small bugs.
  • Elden Ring's PC performance is still poor overall, with many players experiencing framerate issues, stutters, and more.

While Elden Ring is nothing short of a masterpiece and has proven to be one of FromSoftware's most successful games ever, players of the game have been experiencing several issues with it on PC. One of these issues was a bug that prevented Elden Ring from automatically detecting and using your gaming rig's GPU, resulting in the game running off of weaker CPU integrated graphics instead. Expectedly, this led to tons of performance issues, and while the problem could be fixed manually through Windows settings, many players didn't realize that their GPU wasn't being used.

Thankfully, developer FromSoftware has released Elden Ring Patch 1.02.2 to address and solve this issue. Now, Elden Ring will correctly default to using your PC's GPU instead of your CPU's integrated graphics, which is sure to significantly improve game performance for many PC players.

In addition to the GPU usage issue, Patch 1.02.2 also fixes an issue that was causing the game to crash during fights with the Fire Giant boss. Numerous other minor bugs were resolved with the new update as well, though FromSoftware didn't share any specifics regarding these issues. Overall, PC players can expect a smoother and more stable experience.

Ultimately, it's great to see that the developers are rolling out fixes for Elden Ring's disappointing PC version, though things are still far from perfect. Players have been reporting issues with framerate drops and stutters since Elden Ring came out, even with proper GPU utilization. On top of that, many other Elden Ring known bugs and launch issues, such as multiplayer connection errors and game crashes, have been widely experienced by PC players as well. Hopefully Bandai Namco and FromSoftware are able to patch Elden Ring up sooner rather than later.

Elden Ring is finally here, and it's available for $60 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC. It's one of the best Xbox games you can play right now if you're a fan of challenging RPGs, and we strongly recommend it.
