Jelly Connect lands on our radar as one of this month's AdDuplex HERO Apps. The puzzle game, available for Windows 10 Mobile and PC, is a connect-three styled game where you search for matches of three or more of the same gum drop. Make the connection, earn points and reach a scoring goal to advance to the next gaming level.
Being a HERO App, Jelly Connect becomes a part of a promotional campaign for Windows developers, both Mobile and PC, on the AdDuplex Network. Jelly Connect is not a very complicated puzzle game but does offer a slightly swift gaming pace that creates a nice level of challenge. The primary menu for Jelly Connect holds two options, play the game and mute the music/sound effects. Transitioning into gameplay sends you to a level map that contains eighty-four puzzle levels.
Gameplay is simple in that you have a playing field full of assorted colored gum drops. You need to locate three or more of the same gum drops and connect them by tapping/dragging your finger across them. When this connection or match is made, the gum drops are removed from the playing field, points are earned and new gum drops fill the playing field from the top.
You can create matches of more than three of the same gum drops for additional points and the connections can be made vertically, horizontally and diagonally. There are a few bonus gum drops that, when used in a match, explodes to eliminate adjacent gum drops. There are also gum drops that are frozen that require one match to un-freeze the gum drop and another match to remove it.
Jelly Connect also has the option to make connections of two gum drops, but those connections deduct points from your score. These match-two connections should be used to shuffle the playing field when no moves are available or to set up a huge connection.
The goal with each of the eighty-four levels is to reach a scoring goal before the game timer (illustrated above the playing field) runs out. The target score progressively gets larger, increasing the sense of urgency with gameplay and ultimately the overall challenge of Jelly Connect.
Overall, Jelly Connect is an excellent puzzle game to pass the time. The graphics have a Candyland feel and gameplay does have its fair share of challenges. The only downside to the free, ad-supported game is a slight instability that caused the game to crash after every few games. Hopefully, this is an issue that can be easily fixed.
For some, Jelly Connect may struggle to stand out from other connect/match-three style games in the Windows 10 Store. However, if you are a fan of the gaming genre or just looking for a simple game to pass the time with, Jelly Connect is worth a look.
