It's looking like IO Interactive wants its James Bond title to be the start of its next franchise
Stacking up for the suave secret agent.
What you need to know
- IO Interactive is working on a James Bond game.
- This title is currently known as Project 007, for which the team is actively hiring.
- IO Interactive plans to grow from 200 to 400 developers, doubling in size to support this game.
Back in November 2020, we shared the news that Hitman developer IO Interactive was working on a James Bond game. Now, we've got more insight into the studio's plans with this iconic spy, and it's looking like IO Interactive wants its James Bond title to be the start of its next franchise.
Speaking with Danish website DR, IO Interactive director Hakan Abrak stated that the team will grow to around 400 developers over the next couple of years. Back in 2019, IO Interactive opened a second studio: IOI Malmo, located in Sweden.
IO Interactive's take on James Bond — known right now as Project 007 — will be an entirely original story, obtained with a pitch that DR notes swayed the Broccoli family and MGM, who control everything related to James Bond.
The studio's latest game, Hitman 3, was just released recently, so we shouldn't expect this James Bond game to be ready anytime soon. Platforms have not yet been announced but whenever it does eventually release, it'll likely be available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC and PS5.
An imperfect kill
Hitman 3 is an excellent entry in the Hitman franchise but requires the previous games in the series to be appreciated as a whole. This is a great assassination-focused title to pick up while we wait for more news on IO Interactive's James Bond game.
