HP announced its OMEN 16 and OMEN 17 gaming laptops today. Both new devices feature powerful internals, quick displays, and can be easily expanded with additional RAM or storage. The OMEN 16 and OMEN 17 should arrive in June with starting prices of $1,050 and $1,370, respectively.
The more powerful OMEN 17 delivers "desktop-grade gaming," according to HP. It has up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 laptop GPU with a total graphics power (TGP) of 165W. That powerful GPU is paired with up to an Intel Core i9-11900H CPU. The laptop also features up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM and up to two 1TB PCIe SSDs that support Raid 0.
While the OMEN 16 doesn't quite have the specs of its larger sibling, it still competes with the best gaming laptops in terms of internals. It runs on up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 laptop GPU. The OMEN 16 has options for either up to an Intel Core i7-11800H processor or an 8-core AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX mobile CPU. It also features up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM and up to two 1TB PCIe SSDs that support Raid 0.
To keep the powerful internals of the laptops cool, HP focused on thermal-friendly designs. The OMEN 16 has blades that are 2.5 times as thin with over a 200% increase in blade count compared to the OMEN 15. The OMEN 17 has 24 more blades which are 17% thinner than those in its predecessor. It also has an outlet that's 14% larger than the previous OMEN 17. HP claims that the new OMEN 17 has a reduction of 5 °C (9 °F) on the keyboard surface deck compared to previous generations.
