The open-world maps in The Division games are incredible, and now there's a big expansion on the way for the sequel, thoughts among players are turning towards all the new areas to explore. Having spent year one on the streets of Washington D.C. (and a few assorted areas outside the city), Warlords of New York is taking us back to the beginning of it all.

The expansion is set in Lower Manhattan, an area of New York City that wasn't included in the first game. So far Massive hasn't shown off an official look at the map, but given some facts that have been revealed, the community has come up with something that could be pretty accurate.

Over on The Division 2 subreddit, a combination of work from two members has resulted in what we see below.

A big hat tip to u/onframe and u/Guapscotch for their combined work, but the image above is how the new map could be sized compared to both the current D.C. map in The Division 2 and the Midtown Manhattan location from The Division.

Obviously it's not remotely official, but we do know some details that have led to this comparison's creation. For one, we're looking at Lower Manhattan, and as with The Division 2 Washington D.C. map, the creation is being done on a 1:1 basis. The original NYC map from the first game wasn't built this way, with areas cut out where the developers felt necessary.

We should be in for a pretty solid piece of new map to explore, especially since it's an expansion and not a full new game. New York also has much more verticality than Washington D.C., which has much more in the way of open space, so hopes are high there's a lot to get into. There's also no Dark Zone on the expansion map, so everything is pure PvE gameplay space.

The return to New York doesn't just bring an old protagonist back into the spotlight, the streets will also be filled with Rikers and Cleaners, two factions from the first game that have improved AI and new 'tools' to make the challenge fresh. There's also a new level 40 cap in play, SHD levels take over in endgame and the raid will be updated with a new level 40 tier.

Warlords of New York due out on March 3

The Division 2 Warlords of New York expansion is due to launch on March 3 on Xbox, PC, and PS4. Early pre-orders will get a bonus level 40 weapon and some in-game apparel as well as a free level 30 boost to use on an in-game character.

As we get closer to launch hopefully we'll start to get some of the finer details ironed out on what to expect.
