Updated September 10, 2019: Today, Microsoft fixed the random shutdown issue plaguing Alpha Ring Insiders.
The Xbox One Preview Program gives the public a chance to test out upcoming features and changes. However, it's not without its problems. In a recent update, it looks like a rather serious bug was introduced which caused the console to randomly shut down when watching Netflix or playing games. We encountered the same issue while testing out an upcoming title for review purposes.
Luckily, Microsoft is aware of the problem and posted the following information on Xbox Wire about the latest Alpha Ring build. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a solution at this time.
We'll keep you posted as soon as Microsoft releases another patch or a workaround is discovered. Until then, be careful. We had to unenroll from the Xbox One Preview Program to fix this as it was impacting our coverage of an upcoming game. If you're having serious issues too, that may be the only solution as of now.
