I finally found a 1TB NVMe SSD resistant to inflated storage costs — Kingston's NV3 is down to just $109 for one day only

B&H Photo's deal has ended, though the SSD went up to $189.99, rather than its previous $215.99 price tag. The drive is now being listed as "Discontinued," so I can assume it was a sale on the last of B&H's stock. Kingston's 500GB NV3 is still available for $137.99 at B&H. It's not nearly as good of a deal, but it remains one of the more affordable drives on the market.

Storage prices are out of control right now, and it's hard to recommend any new SSDs unless they're on sale. That's leaving a lot of PC builders and upgraders without enough storage space to hold all their data.

Kingston 1TB NV3 M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD: was $215.99 now $109.99 at BHPhoto

Kingston's NV3 is an M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD offering sequential read and write speeds up to 6,000MB/s and 4,000MB/s, respectively. It's the most affordable 1TB SSD I've seen in weeks, but this deal at B&H expires tonight at midnight.

Is Kingston's NV3 a good M.2 SSD despite its budget pricing?

Although we haven't tested Kingston's NV3 here at Windows Central, our colleagues at Tom's Hardware reviewed it in 2024. They noted the SSD's respectable power efficiency, cool operation, and decent performance expected from the budget storage market.

Sure, you could spend hundreds on an M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD with faster read and write speeds for enthusiast PC gaming or creative tasks, but not everyone has the budget or the need.

With read speeds up to 6,000MB/s and write speeds up to 4,000MB/s, the Kingston NV3 is going to beat any other drive available at the same price with ease. I haven't found any other SSD on sale for a similar price in recent months, and indeed, this one is only going to be discounted for today only.

The Kingston NV3 comes with a Terabytes Written (TBW) endurance rating of 320TB, plus it has an MTBF rating of two million hours. That's some respectable durability for a drive that's so affordable.

If you're making the switch from an older drive rather than just adding the NV3 to your system, the SSD comes with a copy of Acronis True Image software that can be used for easy drive cloning.

This massive $106 discount at B&H that drops the Kingston NV3's price down to $109.99 expires at midnight tonight.

FAQ

Can I use the Kingston NV3 SSD in a gaming PC?

Absolutely. It won't match the performance of drives costing a lot more, but at this price, beggars can't be choosers.

Does the Kingston NV3 SSD work in laptops?

As long as your laptop has an M.2 slot that's accessible, there's no reason why Kingston's NV3 won't work.

Does the Kingston NV3 work with external enclosures?

Yes; as long as your external enclosure is keyed for M.2 2280 SSDs, the Kingston NV3 should work without issue.
