Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, the latest iteration of Square Enix's well-received MMORPG, received a new the patch 6.08 update on Tuesday. According to Square Enix, this update brings bug fixes, adjustments to several player Jobs and marks the grand opening of the Oceania Data Center, along with its new servers.
The changes to player Jobs are mainly damage potency increases for some attacks. The Paladin, Marauder/Warrior, Monk, Dragoon, Rogue/Ninja, Samurai, Machinist, Dancer, Thaumaturge/Black Mage, and Summoner Jobs have received these buffs. However, the Dragoon Job also got a slight rework to one of its abilities, Dragon Sight, to increase its range to 30 yalms. Also, the targeted ally no longer needs to stay within 12 yalms to receive its effects, and the channeling animation for the ability has been removed.
The most significant addition is the launch of the Oceania Data Center. The Oceania Data Center has one Logical Data Server called "Materia" and it houses five new servers (a.k.a Worlds) named after the Primals of FFXIV: Heavensward — Bismarck, Ravana, Sephirot, Sophia, and Zurvan. These new servers promise to provide players living in the Oceania region, such as Australia and New Zealand, more stable connectivity and reduce latency issues, although we'll see if it'll help with ongoing server congestion issues that have plagued the title since it launched in December.
As a bonus, when transferring or creating a character on a server classified as a "New World," players will receive various rewards, including double EXP gains up until Lv. 80, free Home World Transfer services, and special Chocobo Feathers that can be traded in for rare items such as mounts. More details regarding these rewards can be found on the FFXIV website. Note that the Home World Transfer service that allows you to transfer characters will resume operations on Jan 26, as stated by Square Enix earlier this month.
FFXIV has recently begun selling again on Steam, leading to fresh "congestion" issues on its server pages, which could lead to it being removed from sale once more, but we'll have to wait and see.
