Ex-Left 4 Dead developers announce Back 4 Blood at The Game Awards
A new zombie game because we can never have too many of those.
What you need to know
- Turtle Rock announced Back 4 Blood at The Game wards 2020.
- It's a new zombie game coming from ex-Left 4 Dead developers .
- It is set to release June 22, 2021 with a closed alpha starting on December 17.
During The Game Awards 2020, Turtle Rock announced Back 4 Blood, a new multiplayer zombie game coming to Xbox and PlayStation next year. If the trailer looks familiar, that's because it looks eerily like Left 4 Dead. This is for good reason because Turtle Rock developed the first Left 4 Dead game under Valve.

Not a lot is known about Back 4 Blood at this time, but it will release on June 22, 2021 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC (pending any delays, obviously, because it's been a weird year and we live in a weird world). There will be a closed alpha taking place later this month on December 17. A gameplay livestream will also take place on the same day.
Turtle Rock's previous game, Evolve, was an asymmetrical multiplayer game that pitted three hunters against a gigantic monster. It unfortunately never gained popularity and the studio ended up transitioning it to a free-to-play title before shutting down its dedicated servers entirely in 2018. Here's hoping the developer finds more success with Back 4 Blood.
The Game Awards 2020 livestream is still going on so be sure to tune-in and keep up with all of the latest winners and world premieres. Earlier Microsite's The Initiative announced a new Perfect Dark game, which was rumored to be in development for some time now. Aside from that, be sure to temper your expectations for any huge announcements.
