Everwild for Xbox Series X and PC: Trailers and everything you need to know
Finding beauty and danger in nature.
At X019, Rare, the UK-based studio in Xbox Game Studios that is responsible for games like Banjo-Kazooie, Viva Piñata, and Sea of Thieves, revealed that it was beginning to work on a new IP.
While we don't know a lot about this nature-focused game, there's a little bit we can garner from the trailers and what Rare has shown so far. Here's everything you need to know about Everwild.
What is Everwild ?
Everwild is a new IP from Rare that was first revealed during X019. The development team is being led by Executive Producer Louise O'Connor. At the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase, it was revealed that in Everwild, players take on the role of an Eternal, who can sense the flow of magic in the world and uses it to maintain the balance in nature, working alongside the strange, fantastical animals.

We don't much about the gameplay in Everwild right now. Rare says that it is an adventure game, with a "natural and magical world." In a July 2020 interview, studio head Craig Duncan said the team was still experimenting with different gameplay ideas. Duncan mentioned that part of it would entail, "what does it mean to nurture a world? What does it mean to be in nature?"
Duncan previously stated that Everwild is a special experience that is "more than just a new IP." We'll have to wait and see what else is revealed in the future.
Will Everwild be on Xbox One ?
While we originally thought that Everwild was coming to Xbox One, during the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase the game it was revealed that Everwild is now a next-generation only title, meaning it's just coming to Xbox Series X and PC.
Everwild release date
Currently, Everwild does not have a release date or even a release window. With that said, it definitely won't be out in 2020. Since Phil Spencer has previously stated that the all Xbox Game Studios games releasing in the first year of the Xbox Series X will be cross-generation games, Everwild is likely going to release at some point in 2022. We'll be sure to provide an update when a release date is announced. Like all Xbox Game Studios titles, Everwild will be available day one in Xbox Game Pass.
Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold in one
Xbox Game Pass gives you access to over 200 games for one monthly fee. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate also adds Xbox Live Gold to the package so you can play online with your friends. Right now, you can purchase a three-month subscription for a great price.
