Doties – a Windows Phone game that cannot get much simpler
Doties is a minimalistic Windows Phone game that will test your speed, concentration and patience. The goal is simple - drag matching colored dots to the colored center dot. The challenge with Doties is that the center dot will randomly change colors.
Available for low-memory devices, Doties is a colorful time waster of a Windows Phone game that has a certain level of appeal. I see it being a nice option to pick up from time to time when you need a little help passing short bits of time.
The main menu for Doties follows its minimalistic nature with options to play the game, access the gaming store, mute the sound and rate the game in the Windows Phone Store. The gaming store has options to buy second chance lives through in-app purchases.
The gaming screen for Doties has a series of colored dots floating around a large, center dot that has a countdown timer on it. Your high score is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen and your current score is in the upper right corner.
The object of the game is to tap/drag colored dots that match the color of the center dot to the center dot. Each dot successfully placed on the center dot will add a second back to the game timer. Sound simple, right?
Well to keep you on your toes the center dot will randomly change colors and if you drag the wrong colored dot to the center dot, the game is over. When you do match the wrong colored dot, the timer will be replaced by a heart symbol and you will have just a few seconds to use your second chance lives to resume game play without penalty. Doties starts you out with five of these lives and more can be purchased in the game's store.
The game timer starts at 69 seconds and as long as you pace yourself, you should get a decent score. The problem is that as you get into game play a feeling of urgency takes hold and don't be shocked if you miss a color transition and drag the wrong colored dot to the center. The color transition can be a little tricky but when you see it begin, don't try to rush things. Let the dots lay where they are and wait for transition to finish.

Overall Impression
I found Doties to be a fun and challenging Windows Phone game. I don't think it is a gaming title that will hold up to marathon gaming sessions but it is an entertaining title to have in your Windows Phone gaming library to play for short periods of time.
Doties is so simply laid out it is difficult to find anything wrong with the game. It may not appeal to everyone but that is more of an issue of personal preference than game design.
Overall, I liked Doties and at last check the game was pulling down a 4.5 star rating in the Windows Phone Store, which may be about half a star too high. If you give Doties a try, let us know what you think of the game in the comments below. Also, don't forget to rate the game in the Windows Phone Store. It is the easiest way to send the developer feedback on their work.
