What you need to know

  • According to Actugaming, a Diablo II remaster is in development.
  • This remaster will reportedly arrive later in 2020.
  • Earlier in 2020, Activision Blizzard announced it had multiple "remastered or reimagined" games in development.
  • Diablo 4, which was announced at BlizzCon 2019, does not have a release window.

Diablo II is one of the most critically-acclaimed, successful games ever from Blizzard Entertainment, to the point that the upcoming Diablo 4 appears to be going back to Diablo II's Gothic, horror-focused roots. Players may be getting another chance to go back to that chilling world, as according to French website Actugaming, a Diablo II remaster titled Diablo II Resurrected is in development, with plans to release it later in 2020.

Furthermore, this remaster is purportedly being developed by Vicarious Visions, the Activision-owned studio that developed the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Earlier this year, when Activision Blizzard shared its Q4 financial report, the company noted that it had multiple "remastered or reimagined" games that were in development and would be announced later in 2020.

We'll have to wait and see if this is announced. If it is, it'll be interesting to see the approach taken given the incredibly poor reception of Warcraft III: Reforged due to numerous bugs and feature omissions.

Diablo 4 still does not have a release date or even a release window, with the February quarterly update showing several elements of design that are still in question. We'll continue to provide updates on this rumored Diablo II remaster and Diablo 4 as more information is released.
