The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan invades Xbox One and PC
It's a ghost story.
What you need to know
- Man of Medan is a horror game from Supermassive Games.
- The developer previously worked on Until Dawn for PlayStation 4.
- The game runs at 4K resolution on Xbox One X and features multiplayer.
- You can purchase Man of Medan for $30 through the Microsoft Store.
Until Dawn is an incredibly popular PlayStation 4 exclusive that provided gamers with a new take on the horror genre. While the game was well-received, it didn't set the sales charts ablaze. This was due to the fact that it was exclusive and priced as a AAA experience. Since then, developer Supermassive Games has gone multiplatform, and has partnered with Bandai Namco to deliver a similar game called The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan.
The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of standalone, branching cinematic horror games featuring a multiplayer mode. In Man of Medan, five friends set sail on a holiday diving trip that soon changes into something much more sinister. You're tasked with exploring a ghost ship and uncovering the mystery behind it.
Today, Man of Medan launched on Xbox One for $30. It runs at 4K resolution on Xbox One X and looks absolutely stunning, especially after the day-one patch. Unfortunately, it's locked to 30 frames per second. Since it the game plays more like an interactive movie, it's not a deal-breaker.
In Windows Central's review, Samuel Tolbert wrote, "There's a reason I reference Until Dawn so much throughout this review: Man of Medan is essentially a sequel. It may not share a name but the structure is there. While this story is curiously restrained, it's macabre all the same and well worth a look for fans of narrative horror. I enjoyed my time at sea with this crew, and I'm interested in talking to the Curator again, wherever this anthology is headed."
